Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding a public meeting for the South Sumter Connector Trail Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study. The PD&E Study builds on a planning study completed in 2016, and involves engineering and environmental evaluations, and public and agency outreach to assess options for a trail for bicyclists and pedestrians. This section of trail is part of the larger Coast to Coast Trail network, which will extend nearly 250 miles from St. Petersburg to the Canaveral National Seashore in Titusville.
 
This trail segment is proposed to connect the Good Neighbor Trail in Hernando County to the Van Fleet Trail/South Lake Trail in Sumter County by adding a trail along County Road 673, U.S. Highway 301, County Road 478 and State Road 471. The public meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Webster Community Hall, S.E. 1st Street, Webster, Florida 33597 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to present the multi-use trail options being considered. The meeting will be an open house and attendees will have an opportunity to view a presentation, as well as project displays and other documentation, throughout the evening. Members of the project team will be available to discuss the project and answer questions.

Public Hearing U.S. 27/North 14th Street at Benton Street Trail Crossing

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding a public hearing regarding plans to improve safety on U.S. 27/North 14th Street at the Benton Street Trail Crossing (north of Center Street).
 
Proposed improvements consist of reconfiguring both sides of the trail crossing, and installing a raised pedestrian refuge island in the center turn lane to include new signs and flashing beacons.
 
The public hearing will be 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8 at The Leesburg Public Library, 100 East Main Street, Meeting Room B, Leesburg, FL 34748. The meeting will begin as an informational open house at 5 p.m. where displays and other project information will be available for review. Staff also will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. A presentation will begin at 6 p.m., followed by public comments.
 
A court reporter will be present to record proceedings, and assist with comments, as part of the project record. Written comments can be submitted at the hearing, sent by mail to Dave Mixon, Florida Department of Transportation, 719 S.
