Military Trail Improvement Project Public Information Open House

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Tranpsortation (FDOT) is holding this informational workshop to discuss the proposed improvements that are being considered for State Road 809/Military Trail from State Road 802/Lake Worth Road to south of State Road 80/Southern Boulevard, a total of 3.9 miles. This project is located within the City of Greenacres, the Village of Palm Springs and unincorporated Palm Beach County. 
 
Proposed improvements include:
  • Removing old asphalt and resurfacing of the asphalt pavement from State Road 802/Lake Worth Road to south of State Road 80/Southern Boulevard
  • Minor reconstruction of the intersection at Bowman Street and southbound State Road/Military Trail
  • Updating existing crosswalk ramps at various locations to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and update/install pedestrian countdown signals along with pedestrian pushbutton devices at the crosswalks
  • Installing closed circuit cameras to monitor traffic movement and dynamic message sign boards to inform motorists of travel conditions  
  • Reconstructing sidewalks at existing bus stop locations
  • Replacing mast arm traffic signals at the southwest corner of 10th Avenue North and State Road 809/Military Trail
  • Upgrading signalized intersections to video detection
  • Upgrading the pedestrian guiderails at the existing canal drop-off
  • Upgrading signs and pavement markings to meet current standards
  • Improving drainage
  • Realiging and minor roadway reconstructing at Summit Boulevard for continuous bike lanes

Construction of these improvements is anticipated to begin in Fall 2016 and to be completed in Fall 2018. The estimated construction cost is $7 million. 

Interaction between the public and FDOT is essential. We encourage the public to get involved by attending this open house at your convenience and providing comments, concerns and suggestions.

The open house will have an informal format. No formal presentation will be made. Maps, drawings and other project information will be available for review. Project staff will be available through the open house to discuss the project, answer your questions and receive your comments.

Broward Boulevard Improvements Open House

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation  (FDOT) is holding this informal open house to discuss proposed improvements to be made to Broward Bouelvard from NW 18th Avenue to US 1.
 
Project improvements include:
  • Replacing the eastbound and westbound bridges over the North Fork of the New River
  • Removing old asphalt and repaving the existing roadway
  • Upgrading the existing sidewalks by removing brick pavers
  • Upgrading pedestrian features in accordance with Americans with Disbilities Act (ADA) requirements
  • Adding a pedestrian crosswalk on Broward at SE 1st Avenue
  • Widening the roadway shoulder by one foot to accommodate a four-foot-wide bike lane
  • Enhancing roadway lighting
  • Improving traffic signalization
 
Construction of these improvements is expected to begin late Summer 2016 and to be completed in Summer 2018. Construction cost estimate for the improvements is $8.8 million for the bridge replacement and $6 million for roadway improvements.
 
There will be no formal presentation. Project plans will be on display and FDOT staff will be available throughout the open house to discuss the project and answer questions.

Southern Blvd ICWW Bridge Replacement Project

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding this informal open house to discuss the upcoming project to replace the Southern Boulevard Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway and the Tide Relief Bridge.
 
This construction is expected to begin in Summer 2016 and to be completed in approximately three years. The estimated construction cost is $78 million.
 
Improvements that will be made in this project include:
  • Replacing the existing moveable bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW) with a new two-lane moveable bridge, on the same alignment, with 12-foot wide travel lanes, 21 feet of vertical clearance and 125 feet of horizontal clearance between the fenders.
  • Building a temporary bridge on the north side of the existing bridge in order to minimize traffic impacts during construction of the replacement bridge
  • Replacing the Tide Relief Bridge, just east of the ICWW, with a similar two-lane bridge located parallel to and slightly south of the existing bridge alignment. The new bridge will provide approximately 11 feet of vertical clearance and 48 feet of horizontal clearance
  • 10-foot-wide shoulders (which will accommodate bicyclists) and 6-foot-wide sidewalks are proposed on both sides of both bridges
  • Building a new left turn lane from the ICWW bridge onto Flagler Avenue 
  • Building roadway and drainage improvements along Southern Boulevard, Flagler Drive and the Post Memorial Causeway
  • Building enhanced parking areas and new sidewalks along Post Memorial Casueway
  • Upgrading the road signs and pavement markings along Southern Boulevard, Flagler Drive and the Post Memorial Causeway
  • Installing new mast arm traffic signals at the intersections of Southern Boulevard with Washington Road and Flagler Drive
  • Paving the shoulders and revising median access along the Post Memorial Causeway
  • Installing infrastructure at the intersection of Church Street for potential future signalization
The open house will have an informal format. No formal presentation will be made. Project diagrams and plans will be on display. FDOT staff will be available throughout the open house to discuss the project and answer questions.
