Old Dixie Hwy Bicycle and Pedestrian Project Community Awareness Meeting

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and City of Fort Lauderdale are holding this meeting to discuss proposed pedestrian and bicycle improvements to be made along Old Dixie Highway from NE 13 Street to the Middle River Bridge in Fort Lauderdale.
 
The improvements include:
  • Widening Old Dixie Highway to accommodate bicycle lanes in each direction
  • Filling gaps to create a continuous five-foot-wide sidewalk on each side of Dixie Highway
  • Adding raised table intersections with pedestrian crosswalks 
  • Installing pedestrian lighting
  • Improving drainage for the corridor including the addition of bio swales
  • Installing landscaping along the corridor 

Construction of these improvements is anticipated to begin in October 2016 and to be completed in January 2018. The estimated construction cost of these improvements is $3.3 million.

The meeting will have an informal, open house format. No formal presentation will be made. Project plans will be on display and staff will be available throughout the meeting to answer questions and address individual concerns.

Broward Mobility Projects in Davie & Plantation Construction Open House

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Broward County are hosting this informal open house to discuss upcoming construction of sidewalks or bike lanes at seven locations in the Town of Davie and City of Plantation.
 
No formal presentation will be made. Project plans will be on display and staff will be available to discuss the construction, answer questions and address individual concerns.
 
Construction of these improvements is expected to begin in early 2016. The improvements include:
  • Davie:
    SW 136 Avenue from SW 14 Street to Shenandoah Parkway
    Construction of a 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk along the east side of the corridor. No sidewalk will be constructed between SR 84 and the existing sidewalk that ends approximately 60 feet north of Shenandoah Parkway.
  • Plantation:
    Broward Boulevard from Commodore Drive to Flamingo Road
    Construction of a 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk along the north side of the corridor.
  • Broward Boulevard from Flamingo Road to Old Hiatus Road
    Construction of a 6-foot-wide concrete sidewalk along the north side of the corridor from east of the Plantation Fire Station to SW 118th Avenue, the north side of the corridor from east of SW 115th Avenue to west of Old Hiatus Road, and along the south side of the corridor from SW 115th Terrace to west of Old Hiatus Road. An ADA compliant curb ramp will be constructed on the south side of the corridor on the crosswalk in front of American Heritage School.
  • Nob Hill Road from SR 84 to Broward Boulevard
    Widening, removing old asphalt and resurfacing the existing roadway and restriping the corridor to provide 4-foot-wide designated bicycle lanes and a 3-foot striped buffer along both sides of the corridor. Bike lane continuity will be maintained at all intersections and bike lane symbols will have a green field background.
  • Broward Boulevard from east of Pine Island Road to west of University Drive
    Removal of the existing 6-foot-wide concrete sidewalk and construction of an 8-foot-wide concrete sidewalk along the south side of the corridor.
  • NW 70th Avenue from NW 5th Street to NW 8th Street / Plantation Road
    Removal of the existing sidewalk along both sides of the corridor and construction of a new 8-foot-wide concrete sidewalk on both sides of the corridor.
  • Pine Island Road from SR 84 to Broward Boulevard
    Removing old asphalt, resurfacing and restriping the corridor to provide 4-foot-wide designated bicycle lanes and a 2-foot striped buffer along both sides of the corridor. Bike lane continuity will be maintained at all intersections and bike lane symbols shall have a green field background. The 40 mph speed limit will be adjusted to 35 mph.
Traffic Impact
During construction single lane closures can be expected between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.  When necessary, flaggers will direct traffic.

 
This construction is part of a $15 million contract that FDOT awarded to Construct Group Corp. for the construction of sidewalks, multi-use pedestrian paths and bicycle lanes along 48 roadways throughout Broward County. This contract began in February 2015 and will be completed in Summer 2018.

I-95 Bridge Deck Replacement Project Open House

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding this public information workshop to discuss the proposed replacement of the bridge decks on the I-95 overpasses at Gatlin Boulevard and Midway Road in St. Lucie County. 
 
Replacement of these decks will require full closure of Gatlin Boulevard and Midway Road during overnight hours. A detour plan will be shown at the meeting.
 
Construction is anticipated to begin in Summer 2016 and to be completed in one year. The estimated cost of this construction is $10.5 million.
 
The workshop will have an informal, open house format. No formal presentation will be made. FDOT project staff will be available throughout the workshop to discuss the project, answer questions and receive public comments.

US 1 PD&E Public Hearing in Vero Beach

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is conducting this public hearing to discuss proposed improvements to be made to State Road (SR) 5/US Highway 1 from south of 53 Street to north of County Road 510, a length of 4.7 miles.
 
The hearing will begin as an open house at 5:30 p.m.
A formal presentation will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a public comment period. 
 
The proposed improvements consist of:
  • Widening US 1 from four to six lanes
  • Adding bicycle lanes
  • Adding sidewalks
  • Intersection modifications at 53 Street, 69 Street and County Road 510

The public hearing is being conducted to give interested persons an opportunity to express their views concerning the location, conceptual design, and social, economic and environmental effects of the proposed improvements.
