Wave Streetcar Project Public Information Workshop

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding this Public Information Workshop to inform the community of the first phase of the Wave Streetcar project, a 2.8-mile system to move people in and around downtown Fort Lauderdale. 
 
The workshop will be an open house format beginning at 4:30 p.m. Project maps and plans will be on display and staff will be available to discuss the project and answer questions.
 
A formal presentation will be made at 6:30 p.m.
 
Free parking will be provided in the garage on the northwest corner of SW 2 Street and SW 5 Avenue.
 
FDOT in conjunction with Broward County will manage the construction of the Wave Streetcar System. Construction is expected to begin mid to late 2017. Broward County will be the owner and operator of the Wave Streetcar. It is anticipated to be operational in 2020.

Pembroke Road Improvements Construction Open House

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding this open house to discuss beginning of a construction project on Pembroke Road from US 1 to I-95 in the Hallandale Beach and Hollywood area.
 
Improvements being made under the project include:
  • Installation three sections of raised median
  • Removing old asphalt and resurfacing Pembroke Road within the project limits
  • Replacing sections of sidewalk where needed 
  • Installing pedestrian ramps to meet current ADA standards
  • Installing new pedestrian signal heads and push buttons
  • Installing new pavement marking including bike lanes
  • Installing two permanent traffic monitoring sites
Traffic Impact: During construction lane closures will occur during non-peak hours from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.
 
DOT awarded the $1.6 million contract to General Asphalt Co., Inc. Construction is expected to begin May 25, 2016 with completion anticipated in early 2017.

Hollywood Boulevard Complete Streets Project Public Hearing/Workshop

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding this Public Hearing/Workshop to discuss proposed bicycle and pedestrian improvements for Hollywood Boulevard from City Hall Circle to Dixie Highway.
 
Agenda:
5 PM       Plans will be on display and staff available to discuss the proposed improvements and answer individual questions

Proposed improvements include:
  • Rebuilding Hollywood Boulevard with two lanes, 6-foot-wide buffered bike lanes in each direction, a median with parallel parking and a walkway
  • Replacing existing sidewalks with colored concrete sidewalks
  • Installing new, decorative street lights
  • Converting diagonal parking to parallel parking
  • Creating five mid-block pedestrian crossings
  • Installing new mast arm traffic signals at the Hollywood Boulevard/24th Avenue intersection
  • Installing new drainage
  • Installing new signs and pavement markings
Construction is anticipated to begin in Summer 2017 with completion in 1.5 to 2 years. The estimated construction cost is $6.8 million. NOTE: Landscaping will be installed by the City of Hollywood after this project is completed.
 
Traffic Impact:
  • Construction of these improvements will require a number of lanes to be reduced to one in each direction 
  • 24th Avenue will be closed and detoured during reconstruction of the intersection
  • Access to businesses will be maintained throughout construction.
This project is part of a larger $100 million investment from the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to provide bicycle, pedestrian and public transportation access throughout the Broward region. The goal of this initiative is to complete Broward's bicycle and pedestrian network and provide safe facilities for our residents and visitors who walk and cycle.

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is hold this public information workshop to discuss proposed improvements in the Hollywood Gardens area: Hollywood Boulevard on the south, Johnson Street on the north, SR 7/US 441 on the west and 56th Avenue on the east.
 
This project will cover many streets within the Hollywood Gardens area:
  • Construction of designated bike lanes on Columbus Parkway
  • Shared lanes (Sharrows) on North 58th Avenue, Lincoln Street, Fillmore Street, Polk Street and Taft Street  
  • Minor drainage improvements
 
Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2017 with completion expected in approximately seven months. Construction work will be done in phases to lessen the impact on the community. The estimated construction cost is $ 3.96 million.
