Southern Boulevard / SR-80 Public Information Workshop

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District Four, will conduct a Public Information Workshop to discuss the proposed improvements that are being considered for SR-80 (Southern Boulevard) from West of Lion Country Safari Road to Forest Hill Blvd./Crestwood Blvd., a total of approximately 7 miles, in Palm Beach County, Florida.
 
The workshop will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Town of Loxahatchee Groves, Town Hall, 13901 Southern Boulevard, Loxahatchee Groves, Florida 33470. The meeting will be conducted as an informal open house format with maps, drawings and other pertinent information available for public review.
 
The project objective is to widen and resurface this portion of SR-80 (Southern Boulevard) from West of Lion Country Safari Road to Forest Hill Blvd./Crestwood Blvd. from the existing four (4) lanes to six (6) lanes, by adding one (1) lane in each direction to meet future travel demands. Other improvements include upgrading the drainage system and improving access along the corridor. A 12-ft. shared use path will be constructed along the north side of the entire project corridor. Project representatives
will be available during the meeting to discuss the project, answer questions and receive comments.

US 1 Project Open House

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) US 1 Project Team holds a monthly project open house, on the first Thursday of each month, to inform interested persons of the status of this construction project on US 1 between Kings Highway in St. Lucie County and Oslo Road in Indian River County.
 
Improvements in this 2.4-mile-long project include:
  • Widening US 1 in Indian River County from four to six lanes from the county line to Oslo Road
  • Replacing the bridges over the Florida East Coast railroad tracks
  • Installing new sidewalk on both sides of US 1 in various locations
  • Constructing sound walls on the west side of US 1 in front of the Cypress Bay Mobile Home Park
  • Upgrading traffic signals at the US 1/Highland Drive intersection
  • Installing a new roadway drainage system
  • Removing old asphalt and resurfacing US 1
  • Installing landscaping

Construction on this $23.1 million project began in September 2012 and is expected to be completed in June.

FDOT's Prime Contractor on this project is Community Asphalt Corporation. Construction oversight is being provided by Creative Engineering Group & FDOT.

Old Dixie Hwy Bicycle and Pedestrian Project Community Awareness Meeting

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and City of Fort Lauderdale are holding this meeting to discuss proposed pedestrian and bicycle improvements to be made along Old Dixie Highway from NE 13 Street to the Middle River Bridge in Fort Lauderdale.
 
The improvements include:
  • Widening Old Dixie Highway to accommodate bicycle lanes in each direction
  • Filling gaps to create a continuous five-foot-wide sidewalk on each side of Dixie Highway
  • Adding raised table intersections with pedestrian crosswalks 
  • Installing pedestrian lighting
  • Improving drainage for the corridor including the addition of bio swales
  • Installing landscaping along the corridor 

Construction of these improvements is anticipated to begin in October 2016 and to be completed in January 2018. The estimated construction cost of these improvements is $3.3 million.

The meeting will have an informal, open house format. No formal presentation will be made. Project plans will be on display and staff will be available throughout the meeting to answer questions and address individual concerns.
