Public Meeting for Legacy Trail
District: One
Meeting Type: Open House
Date: Thursday, July 30, 2015
Time: 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Location Name: Laurel Community Center
Street Address: 509 Collins Road
City: Nokomis
Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, is holding an open house about a new pedestrian bridge over Laurel Road for the Legacy Trail. The public meeting “open house” is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Laurel Community Center, 509 Collins Road, Nokomis, Florida, 34275. FDOT will hold this meeting to give interested people the opportunity to review displays and talk one-on-one with staff.

The limits of the Legacy Trail are south of Venice to south of downtown Sarasota. The Legacy Trail at the Laurel Road crossing is currently a user activated pedestrian signal to facilitate Legacy Trail users crossing Laurel Road. The existing Laurel Road (CR 762) within the project limits is currently a four-lane undivided roadway.

As a result of accelerated population growth in Sarasota County, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Sarasota County seek to alleviate the traffic congestion occurring at the trail crossing by eliminating the crossing and constructing an overpass (bridge).

A 90-foot-long pedestrian bridge will be constructed over Laurel Road. The pedestrian multi-use pathway will be 12 feet wide. The design of the pedestrian bridge minimizes impacts to existing historical monuments and the abandoned railroad tracks.

FDOT solicits public participation without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability, or family status. US 41 (SR45) Traffic Separator Project
District: One
Meeting Type: Hearing
Date: Monday, August 03, 2015
Time: 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Location Name: Selby Library
Street Address: 1331 1st Street
City: Sarasota
Purpose:
The FDOT design for resurfacing US 41 from Browning Street to 11th Street in Sarasota is underway.  During design, FDOT reviewed traffic information for the corridor and determined that a northbound right-turn lane is needed to help with traffic flow from Gulfstream Avenue to Fruitville Road.  To construct the right- turn lane, a traffic separator will be constructed from Gulfstream Avenue to south of Fruitville Road, a distance of approximately 1,200 feet.

Due to median modifications FDOT is conducting this public hearing to receive final input from those affected.
