Westshore Regional Multimodal Center Public Hearing
District: Seven
Meeting Type: Hearing
Date: Thursday, July 17, 2014
Time: 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Location Name: Hilton Tampa Airport Westshore
Street Address: 2225 North Lois Avenue
City: Tampa, FL 33607
Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District Seven, is conducting a public hearing on the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study for the Westshore Regional Multimodal Center (WRMC) in the Westshore Business District in Tampa. This public hearing is held to allow interested persons the opportunity to provide comments concerning the location, conceptual design, and social, economic, and environmental effects of the proposed WRMC. The “Westshore Multimodal Study and Strategic Transportation Plan”, completed in February 2012, identified four viable site locations (A, C, D, and S).  This PD&E Study has identified Site C, the redevelopment of a strip of parcels north of I-275 between Trask Street and Manhattan Avenue, as the recommended site for the WRMC. The study will determine the configuration, benefits, costs, and impacts of developing and operating a regional multimodal center at this location. Additional information may be found at the study website: www.fdotd7studies.com.

Your involvement is important to FDOT and to the success of this study. We invite you to share your ideas and comments about the proposed improvements at our upcoming public hearing from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Hilton Tampa Airport Westshore, Westshore Room, 2225 North Lois Avenue, Tampa, FL 33607.  FDOT representatives will be available beginning at 5:00 p.m. to answer questions and discuss the project informally. Exhibits and other project related materials will be displayed, and a PowerPoint presentation will run continuously during the open house. A court reporter will be available to receive comments in a one-on-one setting. At 6:00 p.m., FDOT representatives will begin the formal portion of the hearing, which will provide an opportunity to make formal oral public comments. Following the formal portion of the hearing, the informal open house will resume and continue until 7:00 p.m. You can attend anytime during the two-hour meeting to review project information and talk one-on-one with study team members. FDOT welcomes and appreciates everyone’s participation in the study.

GENERAL SUBJECT MATTER TO BE CONSIDERED: The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District Seven, will host a construction open house for the design improvements for Gandy Boulevard from I-275 to east of 4th Street North.  This meeting will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2014 in the Epiphany of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, 434 – 90th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL 33702 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) contractor, Condotte-deMoya JV, began construction in February 2014 on this $83 million design-build project to improve east/west traffic flow in Pinellas County along Gandy Boulevard from I-275 to East of 4th Street North.  Condotte-deMoya JV is transforming the existing Gandy Boulevard to an elevated six-lane roadway (three in each direction) from I-275 to west of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North and four lanes (two in each direction) from west of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North to east of 4th Street North.  The main objective of the project is to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow on Gandy Blvd, 4th Street North, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North and 94th Avenue North by creating an elevated Gandy Boulevard with interchanges and frontage roads.  Interchanges will be built at 94th Avenue North, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North, Roosevelt Boulevard, and 4th Street North.  A frontage road system will parallel the mainline roadway. Project completion by Spring of 2017.
