The project corridor runs approximately 42 miles north-south along 14 local municipalities. The corridor serves as Palm Tran's highest ridership bus route 1 and 'The Bolt' with limited stop service from Boca Raton to West Palm Beach.

To date, several municipalities have performed Complete Streets studies for the portion of US 1 that traverses their community, while other municipalities have expressed interest to perform similar studies.

Bicycle Helmet Fitting Training Course

SR A1A & Sewall's Point Rd Signal Project Construction Open House

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and our project partners will host an informal open house to discuss the coming construction on State Road A1A at the Sewall's Point Road intersection in the Town of Sewall's Point.
 
No formal presentation will be made during the open house. Project diagrams and other pertinent materials will be on display for public review. Staff will be on hand to discuss the project, answer questions and address individual concerns. 
 
The project includes:
  • Upgrading the traffic signals to mast arms, adding pedestrian detectors and closed-circuit TV monitoring cameras
  • Upgrading sidewalks and driveway connections
  • Installing minor landscaping on A1A at the intersection
 
This construction is expected to begin August 11, 2017 with anticipated completion by early 2018. The cost of this construction is $459,999. The work will be performed by ARC Electric, Inc. with FDOT overseeing the project.
 
Traffic impact during construction:
  • Work will be done in phases to minimize traffic impacts
  • Lane closures will occur at the intersection during non-peak hours
  • The speed limit on State Road A1A at this intersection will be reduced from 40 MPH to 35 MPH for the duration of the project
  • Sidewalk closures at the intersection quadrants will occur to accommodate mast arm installation. Only one sidewalk section will be closed at a time.

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District Four, will conduct a Public Hearing for the I-95/SR 9 Interchange at 6th Avenue South PD&E Study. The project limits are from north of 12th Avenue South to south of Lake Worth Road along I-95/SR 9 and from Michigan Avenue to South C Street on 6th Avenue South in Palm Beach County, Florida. The Public Hearing will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at The Club Managers Association of America Therapeutic Recreation Complex (Special Olympics Training Facility) in the Gymnasium located at 2728 Lake Worth Road, Lake Worth, FL 33461. The Public Hearing will commence as an open house at 5:30 p.m., with a formal presentation at 6:00 p.m. In the event that the Public Hearing cannot be held on August 3, 2017, due to severe weather or unforeseen conditions, it will be held on the alternate date of August 10, 2017, at the same time and place.

A PD&E Study is FDOT’s process to evaluate the social, economic, and environmental impacts associated with a planned transportation improvement project. The purpose of this Public Hearing is to give interested persons a final opportunity for the public to make verbal or written statements about the study and the recommended improvements.

If you would like to review the project documents prior to the Public Hearing, they will be available to the public beginning on July 13, 2017, at the Lake Worth Public Library, 15 N M St Lake Worth, FL 33460 (Tuesday and Wednesday 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.) and the Florida Department of Transportation District 4 Office, 3400 W Commercial Blvd. Ft. The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) pursuant to 23 U.S.C. §327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 14, 2016 and executed by the Federal Highway Administration and FDOT.

17th St Shoulder Widening & Resurfacing Project Construction Open House

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and our project partners are hosting this informal open house to discuss upcoming construction on 17th Street (State Road 656) from US 1 to the 17t Street Causeway Bridge in the City of Vero Beach.
 
No formal presentation will be made during this open house. Project diagrams and other pertinent materials will be on display for public review. Staff will be on hand throughout the open house to discuss the project, answer questions and address individual concerns.
 
Construction on this 0.72-mile project is expected to begin August 18, 2017 with anticipated completion by fall 2018.  The cost of this construction is $3.06 million. The work will be done by Community Asphalt Corporation with FDOT overseeing the project.
 
Improvement that will be made by this project include:
  • Widening the shoulder along 17th Street from US 1 to the 17th Street Causeway Bridge to accommodate average 6.5-feet-wide buffered bike lanes in both directions
  • Installing drainage
  • Installing sidewalk with detectable warning surfaces at ADA ramps 
  • Installing a new mast arm traffic signal at the NW corner of 6th Avenue and upgrading pedestrian detectors
  • Removing existing asphalt, resurfacing the existing travel lanes and installing new pavement markings throughout the project limits
 
Traffic impact during construction:
  • Work will be done in phases to minimize traffic impact
  • Traffic in either direction on 17th Street will be reduced to one lane at all times to facilitate drainage installation and shoulder widening work
  • Nighttime lane closures will occur for barrier wall installation and paving
  • The sidewalk along 17th Street will be open on one side of the street at all time

Florida's Community Traffic Safety Teams (CTST) are locally based groups of highway safety advocates who are committed to solving traffic safety problems through a comprehensive, multi-jurisdictional, multi-disciplinary approach. Members include local city, county, state, and occasionally federal agencies, as well as private industry representatives and local citizens.

The goal of the CTST is to reduce and improve traffic safety in our community.  By working together with interested citizens and other traffic safety advocates within our  communities, the CTST help solve local traffic safety problems related to the drivers, pedestrians, vehicle, and the roadways    We feel that by working together we can more effectively address these issues.

Design Public Workshop: US 1 Resurfacing in Boynton Beach

Purpose:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding this Public Workshop to discuss proposed improvements to be made to US 1 (State Road 5) from north of George Bush Boulevard (milepost 10.78) to north of Murano Bay Drive (milepost 15.12) in Boynton Beach.
 
The workshop will have an informal, open house format. No formal presentation will be made. Design plans and diagrams will be on display and staff will be available to discuss the project, answer questions and address individual concerns.
 
The proposed improvement includes:
  • Removing old asphalt and repaving the existing roadway from north of George Bus Boulevard to north of Murano Bay Drive
  • Upgrading all existing curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities (ADA) current standards
  • Repairing the drainage system
  • Providing pedestrian countdown timers and signal video detection at: NE 14 Street; Gulfstream Boulevard; SE 23 Avenue; E. Woolbright Road; E. Ocean Avenue; E. Boynton Beach Boulevard; NE 4 Avenue and NE 10 Avenue 

Construction of these improvements is expected to begin in Spring 2019 with completed anticipated in Summer 2020. The estimated construction cost of these improvements is $6.2 million.
